Clayton was well represented in post-season awards for fall athletic performance.
On the girls’ side, junior Carly Cassity was selected for the Post-Dispatch second team all-metro. Cassity and doubles partner Caroline Greenberg finished third in state. Cassity was also selected an all-metro athlete a year ago.
“I’m honored to be recognized,†Cassity said. “It means a lot to be up there as one of the top players in the metro area.  It’s a great group of players that get recognized and I am just glad to be up there with them.â€
Junior football players David Neville and Tyler Walker were recognized at the regional and state level. Both were named to the Post Dispatch third team all-metro defense.  In the all-state poll voted by sportswriters, Walker was selected on the second team all state and Neville to the first-team.
Neville said that he was just as “honored†to receive the accolade of third team all-metro as first team all-state because it compared him to other athletes that compete in a different class. The state rankings are based off the class that the school competes in, whereas the Post-Dispatch selects the all-metro athletes regardless of the class of the school the athlete attends.
Walker, who was also recognized last season as an all-metro athlete, echoed Neville’s words.
“It’s pretty cool,†Walker said. “You take pride in being recognized as being one of the best players in Missouri.â€
Neville spoke for himself, Walker and Cassity, all juniors, when he said that it was a “goal to be first team all-metro next year.â€
Soccer forward and senior Charlie Harned was also named first team all-state in the coaches’ poll. Harned looks to pursue his athletic talents at the collegiate level next year, whether that is in soccer or basketball.
