Tonight the varsity football Greyhounds took on the Jennings Warriors, defeating them 45-22. The Greyhounds advance to the second round of the MSHSAA Class 4 Playoffs. The Hounds will play the winner of the Gateway-St. Charles matchup on October 31 at a location to be determined.
The game started out chilly, but quickly the forty degree wind turned into driving rain and eventually lightning. Audience members laughed as the CHS Pep Band sprinted from the bleachers to their instrument cases as rain began to fall.
However the Hounds managed to set aside the elements and race their way into the second round. The Warriors fought their way to a quick start, stopping the Hounds on fourth down inside the five-yard-line on Clayton’s first possession. As well, Jennings scored on their next two chances taking an early lead. It wasn’t enough, however, as Clayton pulled away.
