Coma Coffee

As a high school student in desperate need of a caffeine jolt, Coma Coffee is the perfect place to go.

Although the cafe was hard to find it is the hidden gem of the community. Coma Coffee is located across from the Galleria, in the lobby of the University Tower.

As I walked in, I was warmly greeted by a young hipster barista. Being a novice coffee drinker, I was uneducated about the varieties of coffee drinks, but the barista was willing to share his knowledge and preferences.

Unlike Starbucks the menu is rather simple and has fewer options. Coma Coffee serves a selection of traditional drinks, brewed coffees and signature items. From the coma, an espresso with vanilla ice cream, to the lyfe, pomegranate juice with a shot of espresso, to the U-Tower, hot chocolate with three scoops of ice cream, one cannot go wrong.

Corbin and Macy Holtzman, the co-owners of Coma Coffee, wanted to bring high quality coffee from around the world to their customers.

The cafe uses various different brewing techniques including: cold brew, espresso and drip coffee.

In desperate need of a java jolt, I took a sip of the lyfe, which may seem unappealing, but the pomegranate created a tart yet sweet flavor making the drink irresistible. In a matter of seconds I had consumed the entire drink.

When ordering my drink it was hard to resist the mouthwatering pastries that filled the glass countertop. The cafe serves Pharaoh’s Donuts and homemade gooey butter cake, cinnamon rolls, apple cinnamon and cheddar jalapeño scones and quiches.

Pharaoh’s Donuts enhance the flavorful coffee, especially when you submerge the donut in the drink.

The café helps promote local artists by filling the walls with their work.

Unfortunately the cafe is not as relaxing as a comfy sofa at Starbucks, since the cafe caters to more of a professional clientele.

With access to free wifi, a cup of hot coffee and easy parking Coma Coffee is the perfect place to do homework.
