Momos Greek Tavern

I would describe Momos Greek Tavern in University City in two words: casually elegant. The tables have fancy candles and exotic benches with dim lighting. However, the servers are loose and funny, leaving the customer comfortable in the fancier setting.

As a party of seven, my friends and I were treated very kindly. We were given our own little room and fairly quick service. Though the waitress was busy with so many people at one table, I always felt I could ask her if I needed more water or had a question about the menu.

For dinner, my table split a few dishes. We started with calamari and pita bread. The calamari was a tad plain, but decent when dipped in the marinara sauce. The pita bread was wonderful: soft, warm and flavorful.

The main courses came shortly after. I started by having a few of the Greek meatballs. Melty cheese and wonderful sauce topped the large meatballs, greatly pleasing my taste buds.

To have the true Greek experience, I felt I needed to eat some falafels. Though they look plain, the fried chickpea balls are tasty and have brilliant texture.

The night also led to some surprises. I was not prepared to get a personal lesson from a belly dancer, which was an odd (yet humorous) experience.

I felt the prices were a tad expensive, but not outrageous. My table ate a lot, which did raise the price.
Overall, it was a really fun dinner. I was happy to get a taste of Greek culture, and would definitely recommend it to someone looking for a nice evening.
