With growing mental health concerns nationwide, Clayton is bringing in a new position to the district, Director of Student Support, Michael Siebe. Siebe has spent the past three years as the Mental Health Director for Francis Howell, and before that he spent 10 years in Pattonville as the district social worker. However, his inspiration to get into student support services came from his time working with troubled families in his position as a Social Service Program Manager for the State of Missouri.
“When you’re helping families after neglect and child abuse have happened, it made me wonder, how can I help families and kids before it gets to that point? So that’s what caused me to go to education,” Siebe said.
Siebe has been helping families for years, and longed to return to his roots of a small tight knit community like he grew up in at the Valley Park School District.
“I’m probably going to be able to support students and staff on a deeper level, rather than trying to hit 23 schools,” Siebe said.

Siebe wants students to feel comfortable coming to talk to him, and feels his approachability is what separates him from other people in a similar position to him.
“I’m approachable, come talk to me. You guys can always call, email [and] drop by. My hope is to be in the building and the halls here [often],” Siebe said.
Beyond his interest in helping families, Siebe has an interest in working out and exercise and also has a passion for fishing.
“Me and my family will go down Annapolis, Mo. and try to fish down the Black River, and we take trips to Michigan as a family a lot, and it’s a lot of fun for us when we fish,” Siebe said.
Siebe hopes to be an accessible staff member who is always open to talk, whether it be about mental health, fishing or anything that comes to mind.
