Owen Maddox: What’s up, guys!!! Welcome back to another podcast of Difference Makers. I’m your host, Owen Maddox. And today we have a very, very, very special guest, Hank Burger. Hank, tell us a little about yourself.
Hank Burger: Um, I’m Hank. I’m a freshman at Clayton High School.
Owen Maddox: All right. So when I asked you to be on this podcast, how did you feel?
Hank Burger: Uh, excitement and a bit of nervousness, you know? I’ve never done something like this before, but I’m excited.
Owen Maddox: All right, man. That’s pretty cool. Let’s um, let’s get into the, you know, you know, the podcast is called Difference Makers, you know, let’s get to the golden question. Who made a difference in your life and how?
Hank Burger: I would say my parents, because, you know, they’ve been supporting me throughout, you know, school, and always having excitement about what I want to do.
Owen Maddox: All right, man. Hey, that’s pretty cool. Um, how specifically, like, do your parents support you?
Hank Burger: You know, they’re, I mean, my new baseball team is 30 minutes away, where we practice, and I practice, you know, three times a week. My dad’s always driving me out there and then driving me back, you know, um, buying me all this new equipment and stuff, and I’m really grateful.
Owen Maddox: And who do you play baseball for?
Hank Burger: Uh, the Bears.
Owen Maddox: Oh, that’s that’s pretty cool. Do you play any fall ball?
Hank Burger: Yes, I do. We actually have two more tournaments.
Owen Maddox: Mmm, it’s pretty cold out there, isn’t it?
Hank Burger: Yeah.
Owen Maddox: All right, let’s get into some rapid-fire questions, all right? All right, so the first one is, what is your favorite food?
Hank Burger: My favorite food right now, I’d have to say sushi.
Owen Maddox: What, what’s your favorite like roll? Sushi roll?
Hank Burger: Oh, all right. I like salmon avocado rolls, especially when they have that like, you know, spicy sauce on top.
Owen Maddox: Nice, nice. You know, that’s, I’m not much of a sushi fan myself, but I mean, I can tolerate it. All right, so in your opinion, what are the top three places to eat?
Hank Burger: To eat sushi, or to eat all around?
Owen Maddox: Just eat in general.
Hank Burger: Eat in general. So, um, I’m going to go from top to bottom. First, I would have to say Sushi Station out in Webster. And then I would have to say, uh, House of India, Indian food. And then, for my last spot, I’m going to go to High Pointe.
Owen Maddox: Ooh, okay. All right, next one, you know, sports questions, because you can tell you’re a baseball guy. All right, what’s your favorite sports team from each sport?
Hank Burger: Ooh, from each sport? First, in baseball, I mean, we live in St. Louis, so I guess I’ve got to say the Cardinals. Um, hockey, you know, I don’t follow hockey that much, but the Blues are obviously in the playoffs, so I’m going to go with them. Uh, football, um, I’m going to go with the Patriots ’cause, you know, I have family out there and I’ve been with fantasy drafts, you know, helping my dad out with those.
Owen Maddox: Just a quick question: Who’s on the Patriots that is good in fantasy?
Hank Burger: All right, actually, I’ve been helping my dad out with fantasy that had nothing to do with the Patriots.
Owen Maddox: All right. All right. What is your biggest sports hot take?
Hank Burger: It may not be a hot take, but St. Louis is trash.
Owen Maddox: That’s reasonable. All right. Next question segment: video games, all right? What’s your favorite video game to play with friends?
Hank Burger: Um, I like, there’s a new game preview out called Skate. That’s pretty fun.
Owen Maddox: And what is Skate about?
Hank Burger: Uh, you know, you skate, you know, like a skateboard, you skate around, you can do like tricks, you can flip, and stuff. It’s pretty fun.
Owen Maddox: Can you do tricks?
Hank Burger: Yeah, I can.
Owen Maddox: All right, man, that’s pretty cool. Um, next one, the J questions, all right? Um, what is your dream job?
Hank Burger: Um, I want to be uh, like the guy that runs out on a field during baseball games to like check on the players if they’re injured.
Owen Maddox: Oh, I didn’t, that’s pretty cool. What inspired you to be that?
Hank Burger: My baseball coach when I was younger, on my old team, he was going through, you know, a sports medicine program at WashU, and he talked about that a little bit. And now I, you know, I want to follow on that, ’cause that seems pretty cool.
Owen Maddox: What is one job you would never, ever do, even if you had great pay?
Hank Burger: You know, I would I wouldn’t want to work for like a big company, you know, down low in a chain. Yeah, like Amazon or like being a Target worker.
Owen Maddox: Yeah, because I’m not paid like a million dollars a day. Actually. I mean, I heard that, I heard it’s pretty rough down there, but, you know, just got to do what you got to do. But accomplishments. Like, what is your best sports accomplishment and why?
Hank Burger: I would say uh, hitting a couple of home runs in a game. You know, it just really felt good.
Owen Maddox: Yeah, does it feel good when you crank a home run over the fence, you know, you just take a good jog around those bases?
Hank Burger: Yeah.
Owen Maddox: I mean, I mean that’s pretty cool, bro. What’s your best school accomplishment?
Hank Burger: Um, I would say consistently getting pretty good grades, like A’s and B’s, and uh, trying hard to, you know, learn the subject properly.
Owen Maddox: Woo, that’s stuff that a lot of kids wish for. All right, you know, college is almost right around the corner, man. I mean, we’re in high school. I mean, three years is like three weeks for real. But like, um, what is your favorite college?
Hank Burger: Um, my favorite college is Illinois. You know, both my parents went there and I follow their basketball every season.
Owen Maddox: Mmm. Now, do you think you could make Illinois’ basketball team?
Hank Burger: No.
Owen Maddox: I think you’re a pretty good hooper. I think you can, do you think you got the, got the jump shot? What is your, you know, your overall dream college?
Hank Burger: My dream college, I would say something like Texas State or Alabama.
Owen Maddox: Ooh, why, why those?
Hank Burger: Um, they seem like pretty well-rounded schools. You know, they’re good at football and baseball, and I feel like it’d be cool to go to those games and obviously have good, you know, like, really call it career paths.
Owen Maddox: Yeah. What is the best college sports team of all time? Any sport?
Hank Burger: Any sport? Any sport? Um, I’m always going to go with football right here. Um, let’s see. Uh, I would say the 2000s Alabama team. You know, they’re really solid.
Owen Maddox: Teams are pretty stacked. All right. Last one to wrap this up. If you could have, if you could give a million dollars to one person, who would that be?
Hank Burger: I would say my dad. You know, he’s always working at odd hours. He’s up at night with his job. He has to stay on call in case something goes wrong, and I really appreciate that.
Owen Maddox: All right, man. Hey, you know, shout out to all the dads out there, yo. If you had an infinite amount of money, what is the first thing you would buy?
Hank Burger: A house.
Owen Maddox: Ooh, where, where would you live?
Hank Burger: I would live in like Colorado, so like in the mountains, where I could ski.
Owen Maddox: Oh, you’re a skiing type of guy.
Hank Burger: Yeah, I like skiing.
Owen Maddox: All right, man. Well, that wraps up. Thank you for being our guest. And I’m your host, Owen Maddox, and that is another episode of Difference Makers.
