Owen Weiss All right, so, um. Hi, Olivia. Um,
Olivia Hi.
Owen Weiss we. And by we, I mean me, because, uh, nobody wants to host us with me besides myself. Um, I have a few questions for you about the ice rink. So would you like me to get started, or do you just want to sit here for a couple of hours and just, like, not do anything productive?
Olivia Um, let’s let’s get started. What the Hay.
Owen Weiss That’s a good idea. That’s a good idea. Okay, so off the bat, um, how many times, like, did you go to the ice rink or how often did you go?
Olivia I go a lot, like. I go, like, during the winter. I went because
Owen Weiss went, like, it’s not here anymore.
Olivia or like. Oh, yeah. R.I.P., um, I went like, probably like, um, a season in total. Probably like ten times a season.
Owen Weiss That’s a pretty hefty amount. So you’d say you’d go like, like once a week or so.
Olivia Yeah.
Owen Weiss Nice. Do you even like to skate?
Olivia Yeah. I love to skate. Um, I, um, I’m pretty bad at it, but I, um, I, my brother used to play hockey when I was little, so,
Owen Weiss So.
Olivia um. Yeah. So I would skate with him, and, um, I’m, like, really bad at it, but I really like skating, so
Owen Weiss you know what? We don’t discriminate.
Olivia Yeah.
Owen Weiss Um, who would you normally go with? Because I know you just said your brother, but, like, did you ever go with, like, your family or friends?
Olivia Um, I would go with my family sometimes, but mostly my friends who live up the street. And we would go, and it’d be fun times.
Owen Weiss That sounds fun. Um, when would you make the time to go, or, like, would you go? I guess not before, after school. Because it’d be, like, around winter break, but, um, like, what time of day would you normally go? That’s a weird
Olivia Mhm.
Owen Weiss Weird question, but, like, would you go like after, like, lunch or something?
Olivia Um, I would go like in the evening, and like it’d be kind of like dusk, and they’d have like that, fire near the ice skating rink, and it’d be just so like chill and
Owen Weiss it was such a vibe. You know?
Olivia yeah, it was like so.
Owen Weiss I got, like, the lights and, like, the campfire.
Olivia Yeah.
Owen Weiss Yeah. Um, why did you like to go?
Olivia Because.
Owen Weiss Like, what were some things that really made you enjoy your time there?
Olivia because it’s such, like, a wintry thing. And it’s just so like. Like a special bonding thing, and it’s like, so beautiful out. And you get to be outside, and you get to skate.
Owen Weiss Yeah, and I like that. You said you like to be outside like that. Um, because I feel like people aren’t really outside that much anymore, right? Um, and this kind
Olivia Yeah.
Owen Weiss it’s a good, not very expensive way to get out and do stuff. Um,
Olivia Yeah.
Owen Weiss what are the things you look for in an ice skating rink?
Olivia Um, I like when the ice is smooth and not all chopped up. Um, or, like, watery, because then it’s like you fall a lot because my grandma broke her knee when she was ice skating. Um.
Owen Weiss that took a gruesome turn
Olivia true story. You just get to, like. Oh, yeah. So not choppiness. Um, and I like it when they have hot chocolate because hot chocolate just literally ties everything together. Because it’s just, like, such a freaking vibe. And then like, when the skates. Because, like, a lot of people don’t have ice skates, and when the skates you rent at the store are nice skates and like, they’re actually usable and they’re not, like, funky. Um, it’s like perfecto.
Owen Weiss I always loved how the vending machines would give you change in dollar coins. So you’d get, like, a gold coin.
Olivia Oh, wow.
Owen Weiss did that ever happen with you?
Olivia I never got that before.
Owen Weiss Oh, I guess I used the vending machines too much. Um. Moving on. Uh, if there is a new ice skating rink coming, or even just temporary ice, what are some things that you would love to see there?
Olivia Um, I think it’d be cool if they had, like, more than one ice skating rink and, like, you know, it’d be so cool if they had, like, pick up hockey in a separate ice skating rink. That’d be so fun.
Owen Weiss Yeah, like anyone could just come and go throughout the day.
Olivia Yeah.
Owen Weiss Um, if you could pick one thing, what is the one thing that you miss most about the old ice rink?
Olivia Okay, so first of all, they have this. I remember they had this giant gumball machine, and, like, we would get this, like, a bunch of these, like, gumballs. And, um,
Owen Weiss I remember that.
Olivia though it was overpriced, but the hot chocolate was so good. And they had little, like, a hangout area. Um, and it was like. Yeah. It was just kind of chill on the inside.
Owen Weiss It was. It was just such a fun little thing.
Olivia Yeah.
Owen Weiss and I really hope that we get some ice back this year.
Olivia Yeah.
Owen Weiss Uh, it might not be as good as it was before, but it’s better than nothing.
Olivia Yeah, sure is.
