AP English Language and Composition

AP English Language and Composition is a class taught only to seniors, and it’s a place for students to develop their repertoire of critical reading skills and enrich their content knowledge through an examination of nonfiction texts. The course emphasizes analytical and argumentative writing styles, and the curriculum differs from many of the English classes taught in prior years.

It’s a lot faster-paced in terms of composition due dates than other English classes, but it’s been helpful to improve my ability to produce quality writing in short time periods. It’s made me more confident in writing my college essays and helped me carry [on] conversations with friends and family since I started taking the class.”

AP Liturature

AP Literature is taught to seniors with a lot of fictional readings, as well as an author project similar to the one in Honors Advanced Literature during junior year. It differs from Lang in that it focuses on literary interpretation rather than rhetorical analysis and covers fiction and poetry rather than nonfiction.

“AP Lit is a hard class with a lot of difficult readings like Hamlet and Handmaid’s Tale, but they’re also really interesting, and I enjoy them. I enjoyed reading Hamlet because it made me appreciative of my relationships.”
