The Clayton High School Library is receiving new additions. Last year, the library’s collection of electronic book readers, or e-readers, increased to six.
Librarian Lauren DeRigne thinks that the school does not need to buy any more right now.
“Currently I feel like six [e-readers] is about the number,†DeRigne said. “I’ll see if the need increases next year, which is may, and then I’ll decide from there.â€
However, the e-books are often checked out.
“Most often they are checked out,†DeRigne said. “We normally have a little bit of a lull, sometimes right after winter break until the new IRA assignments are handed out.â€
However, the library only has approximately 24 books for the nook, and 30 for the kindle.
DeRigne, meanwhile, has a picture for the future of e-reading that does not involve e-readers. the library recently subscribed to a program that allows them to download books onto a specific computer, instead of using a program.
However, DeRigne feels that print books are not going out of style.
“I definitely think that it [our use of e-readers] will increase,†DeRigne said. “and you know, some of the print, we’ll obviously still have print for the next few years, we’ll start looking for more, especially reference and non-fiction, for those to be more e-books.â€
