President Obama Calls for “Year of Action” in State of the Union Address

STATE OF THE UNION

In tonight’s State of the Union Address, President Barack Obama outlined his goals for his sixth year in office. He pledged to use his executive powers to circumvent Congress in advancing his economic plan for the country.

The president promoted increasing the federal minimum wage, extending unemployment benefits, and continuing with the planned immigration overhaul. His 65-minute speech both called Congress to action, while stating twelve ways that he plans to effect change on his own.
