The Ultimate Club

The quad is alive. Calls and trash-talk run rampant. A frisbee floats as if being held up by a wire. An arm flies up and snags it, like a frog and a fly. Cheers and disappointment mingle in pairs. It truly is ultimate.

The Clayton High School quad has always been a place to throw a frisbee.  To formalize this, seniors Justin McKinney and Abraham Park decided to revive the Ultimate Frisbee Club.

“I’ve never seen Clayton with an Ultimate Club,” Park, “And for those not participating in sports, it is a fall back. We are not as committed, but it is a way to keep yourself active.”

Although there is not as much time devotion as other sports, McKinney says they are still looking for competition.

“We are trying to establish an inter-school league where we can keep track of wins and losses, and making sure the teams are even,” McKinney said.

Both Park and McKinney enjoy the game. McKinney expresses this by saying, “I like that it’s a very different game. Ultimate Frisbee involves a lot of different things. It involves coordination, a lot of running, and there is also a lot of strategy involved.”

Even though it sounds difficult, McKinney dismisses this.

“Anybody can play, we have a very wide range of people on our team right now,” McKinney said. “Some people have never played, and people like myself who have played a lot.”

Both Park and McKinney are both very passionate about Ultimate Frisbee. McKinney vocalized what both him and Park desire to see happen with the formation of the club.

McKinney said, “we really wanted a place to just play, and [the club] gave us a place for it, [and] I invite anyone to come out.”
