New to the high school, the developing mountain bike club invites students to ride weekly and eventually compete with other teams.
“We realized it was only me, Henry [Bueno], and Tommy [Leary] who we rode with and wanted to find out if more people enjoyed mountain biking,” junior Hans Reddington, co-founder of the club, said. “We thought starting a club would be the best way.”
The club’s mission is to create a competitive racing team that brings excitement to the school’s sports roster. With weekly rides and a growing member list, the mountain bike club is driven by camaraderie and the chase for the finish line.
“We’re not entirely sure what the structure will look like. As of now, we plan on holding meetings for the club during school once a month, where we go over the basics of mountain biking, then do weekly rides that aren’t sanctioned by the school but are open to anyone who wants to come,” senior and co-founder Bueno said.
Reddington sees the team as a way for school mountain bikers to participate in the sport with others. The co-founders’ recruitment efforts have already recruited over 10 members.
“We are starting out just having organized club rides (not school sponsored) to help build interest. We are hoping to put up some flyers, spread awareness for the club through social media and just by talking to people we might think would enjoy the club,” Reddington said.
