Behind every battle women face for their reproductive rights, there is a team of people fighting for and with them. An often overlooked role in this fight for abortion rights is petition workers. The main abortion petition in Missouri will allow Missourians to vote on whether or not to ban abortion in the state. If the petition gets 172,000 signatures, Missurians will get to vote on the abortion ban. Through connection and training, petition workers work hard to collect these signatures.

After facing health complications, freshman Audrey Schutz’s mom, Rebecca, better understood women navigating female productive rights.

This led Rebecca and Audrey to take action to end Missouri’s abortion ban and put reproductive rights back into the hands of Missouri families and their doctors.

The Schultz’s enrolled in Access MO, in a partnership with Missourians for Constitutional Freedom, volunteer training.

“The training occurred at a private residence where they explained how to collect signatures.  For example, signatures must be in dark ink, match the name and address on voter registration, and then be notarized with the person who collected them attesting to their legitimacy,” said Rebecca Schulz.

Rebecca Schulz finds the ability to vote on this amendment necessary for people who understand the roles abortion plays in women’s healthcare and wants to ensure everyone’s voice is heard in November.

“Many people want to be able to handle these very difficult choices directly with their medical professionals, and for the care they seek for themselves and their families not to be complicated or restricted by the government,” Rebecca Schulz said.

This petition aims to amplify Missouri voters’ voices in response to the state’s total abortion ban enacted in June 2022. The protection of women’s health care is important to Schulz.

Protecting abortion access in our state will make it a safer place not only for all kinds of women but also for our healthcare professionals.

“Protecting abortion access in our state will make it a safer place not only for all kinds of women but also for our healthcare professionals,” Rebecca Schulz said.

If you or someone you know is 18 and registered to vote. You can check your voter registration status at https://voteroutreach.sos.mo.gov/portal/ and contact Rebecca Schulz at [email protected].
