Why did you decide to resign as Superintendent of the School District?

It was a very difficult decision, based totally on my desire to be back home with my family in Chicago and closer to my aging parents in Madison, Wisconsin.

Before you accepted the position as Clayton Superintendent, did you foresee any of the issues that have now led to your resignation?

I think whenever you take a new position in a new community there is a considerable amount of new learning,  I certainly knew there would be some challenges associated with re-locating. These challenges became more complex within the context of the current housing and job market.

How would you like to explain your resignation to the CHS students, teachers, and community?

My reason for resigning has nothing to do with the district.  This is an incredible District.  I have felt very welcomed and supported by everyone.  We are always searching for balance in our lives and at this time in my life I know it is important to be with my family.  I am sad about leaving.  I am really going to miss Clayton.

What have you learned about the School District in your time here as Superintendent?

I think Clayton is a phenomenal School District.  We have curious and engaged students, a highly dedicated staff,  and very thoughtful and supportive Board and community members. As a leader, what really impresses me about the District is the sense of humility and strong work ethic, (I see demonstrated in all areas of the District)  coupled with an expectation for excellence and the passion for continuous improvement.  Clayton continues to stretch itself as an educational community…and that is how an organization achieves and sustains greatness.  Clayton is a very special place.

What are your plans for the future?

At this time I plan to spend more time with my family and visit my parents frequently in Madison.  I will also teach graduate courses in educational leadership, provide service to schools, and do more professional writing.
