On March 18, the world celebrated World Eagle Day, a day dedicated to eagles from around the world.
The main celebration in the St. Louis area took place in the World Bird Sanctuary, a place that houses and takes care of various birds, from great eagles to snowy owls.
Today’s focus, however, was on the eagles. Hourly presentations showcased a golden eagle, a wedge-tailed eagle, a bateleur eagle, and, our national symbol, the bald eagle.
Although the other eagles were interesting enough, the bald eagle stole the show at the Bird Sanctuary’s presentation. It was the only bird allowed to fly back and forth between trainers; this patriotic display of feathers darting from one arm to another was quite stunning.
World Eagle Day served as a reminder to the St. Louis community: Each organism is important in ecosystems and, therefore, worth celebrating.
