Pro/Con: Our Current President

In a moment of achievement for our country in January of 2008, Senator Barack Obama became the first African American president in the history of the United States.

Now a vital moment has come again, with President Obama running for re-election against Republican nominee Mitt Romney. While a lot of hype has gone to Romney, President Obama deserves to be re-elected as our commander-in-chief.

Obama’s success in restructuring a lagging national health care system, his willingness to stand up for what is just on social issues, the growth of the economy after an inherited Republican policy disaster and his toughness on taking on Al-Qaeda, and taking down Osmama Bin Laden, have shown that he is a strong leader and the right person to lead our country for the next four years.

Obamacare is controversial, it is actually a great benefit to us. Medical insurance is now going to be more affordable for everyone,. And is actually going to cost our country less money than paying for the insured when they have to seek medical care they are not covered for.

On social issues, President Obama stands out, as the candidate that wants government out of our personal decisions. While Romney is against gay marriage for religious reasons, President Obama is a full supporter for gay marriage. Gay Americans should not be treated as second-class citizens. If the government gives out marriages, they should give out marriages to everyone. There should be not religion involved in the decision, as per the First Amendment of the constitution. Separate, but equal is not equal.

The president is also an advocate of women’s rights, believing that the decision to have a child or not should be up to the individual female.

On foreign policy, the president’s legacy is a positive one. He managed to get America out of an eight year long Iraq war that helped put the US in the economic toilet as well as cost our nation thousands of American lives.

The president also has a clear exit strategy for Afghanistan and will fully remove troops by the year 2014. But ultimately the President will be remember for the death of the Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden.

Lastly, there’s the never forgotten economy. Obama saved an auto industry on the verge of collapse during the recession. The president’s stimulus bill prevented another Great Depression And although some may point to the lagging unemployment, the responsibility for this shouldn’t land of the president. It is because the Republicans who took over congress have blocked every job-creation bills needed to restore the economic growth for political partisanship.

In the end, this election will determine the fate of America and where our country is headed in the future and by selecting the right leader we will continue to see progressive movement in the USA. So when it comes time on that first Tuesday in November, if you can, remember to vote for President Obama.
