Despite the partial shutdown of the federal government, the rollout of the new health insurance marketplaces mandated by the Affordable Care Act continued Wednesday. Across the country, Americans signed up for health insurance while much of the rest of the federal government was sidelined by a lack of funds.
Although some applicants were hampered by issues with the hastily built marketplaces, enrollment continued in massive numbers for the second straight day.
