This football season will be the first of many without Tyler Walker since his freshman year in 2009. Walker, a star running back, and defensive back is now a freshman at Lindenwood University, where he plays football.
With the loss of “T-Walkâ€, who will step up as the next CHS football standout? Ever since the reign of the now NFL pro bowler Jairus Byrd, there has been at least one star on the team.
From Jairus Byrd; free safety, Adam Banks; quarter back, to Chase Haslett; quarter back, and Tyler Walker; running back and defensive back, each Greyhound team has had some dynamic force at their helm.
Senior right guard Nathaniel Remshardt says to keep your eye on junior defensive and offensive tackle Mike Gant, or “Big Mikeâ€, who was a top prospect this summer and attended a prospect camp where he was ranked third within his position. He also says that senior running back Cailer Keaton has huge potential for a breakout year.
Due to the fact that the team might be lacking that all around offensive player who can single handedly destroy a defense, junior quarterback Jake Brown says “I’m really impressed by how unselfish every player on our team is this year. Unlike in years past, every guy is dependent on the guy next to him to succeed and it’s really building our team’s unity up. As long as we continue that, I don’t see any limit on how far we can go this year.â€
This season may be an interesting one to see if someone has that all praised break out season or the team can come together as one and take home a second consecutive district championship and move towards the state tournament.
