“I just love people, and I’m a people person. I get my energy from other people, and I think that we as people in general have more in common than not. And that’s how I stay grounded. I just think that we have more in common than not as humans. I would tell somebody interested in becoming a school receptionist that they need to remember that this is a customer service-based job. It’s really important that you focus on one person at a time and make them feel like they are the only person that you’re engaging with at that moment. Even though there’s a lot going on in this role, it’s important to spend time with each individual and provide what it is that they’re needing. You don’t know what someone is going through. I think genuinely asking someone, ‘What can I do to help change their outlook on their day?’ [Sometimes] we’re not really listening for the answer, but everybody’s got a story.”
