VTS Program

As the time rolls around again for the Clayton School District to vote again on the issue of the VTS program (Voluntary Transfer Student), it is important to look at why we started this in the first place.
When the VTS program started its main purpose was to integrate the schools in the county. Since that time hundreds of students from the city have had the opportunity for a good education, which they may not have gotten at a city school.
This is not just good for the voluntary transfer students, but it also helps the students that go to Clayton whether they know it or not.

In a predominantly white community it is important for students to have the interaction between cultures. Without this both the Voluntary Transfer Students and the students living in Clayton may have a different point of view of each others culture. This mixture lets all of us have an insight to a different place of growing up.

When the time comes the School District will almost certainly vote for the VTS program to continue, but it important for all of us to know that we are not just providing opportunity to students in the city, but we are also helping students who live in Clayton become more rounded children.
