The hobby of Warhammer 40K has been the focus of this podcast for a few episodes now. But the game itself is about to change in many new ways, and I’m here to cover those changes today. This won’t be the usual lore rundown, but news delivered by Games Workshop on March 26 has given plenty of room for discussion. Along with new miniatures being revealed, the 11th edition of the game itself has been revealed for a release in June. I’m Connor, and welcome to Shortwave Sci-Fi.
Let’s talk about my desk this week! Per usual, there aren’t any new minis on the table for me. In fact, I haven’t been all that invested in Warhammer recently. Over spring break, I was quite busy with college visits. However, I did have time in the car to catch up on Image Comics’ Energon Universe, a crossover of GI Joe, Transformers, and an original series called Void Rivals. I highly recommend checking it out! I also put up some new shelving to display my figures, but that’s about it.
Each time a new edition of Warhammer 40K comes out, it brings changes to lore, characters, miniatures and gameplay. As of right now, the 10th edition is the current version of the game. The first edition, titled “Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader”, was released in 1987. But now, we have our first look at the 11th edition, nearly 40 years later. The animated reveal trailer features a brutal fight between the Blood Angels chapter of Space Marines and the Orks. The revisions of the rules will change parts of gameplay such as capture points and special moves that were considered too powerful in tenth edition. Surprisingly, the Codexes will still apply, meaning that there will not be any confusing changes to existing lore.
In other news, Games Workshop put out a trailer for a Warhammer-themed musical as an April Fool’s day joke. Even though it’s not real, the idea is hilarious to think about, and the trailer is captivating. It features snippets from different musical numbers, including a group of Space Marines singing about killing aliens, a Necron warlord plotting his twisted science experiments, and a Sister of Battle praising the Emperor in song form. The production is so high-effort that I had to double check to confirm that it was just a joke. Unfortunately, it was an elaborate project that amounted to nothing real. I truly applaud everyone who worked on the production of this trailer, as it was a fun time.
That’s about all I have to cover in this episode. As more information comes out about 11th edition, I’ll do my best to cover the changes that are happening with the game. Thank you all for listening, and I just want to apologize for the inconsistency with episodes. There’s a lot going on right now, but I’m trying to make it work. I’ll see you all next time!
