Girls’ Field Hockey

For the first time in five years, the girls’ field hockey team defeated Lafayette. Though one of their key players ended up in the hospital, the team triumphed in the 2-1 win. Goals were scored by Anna Krane and Kyleigh Smith.
“The Laffayette game was really intense,” senior Emily Wack said. “Izzy had to go to the hospital in the middle of the game. We were all really angry after they took Izzy out, and we played really intensly because we wanted to win for Izzy.”
After a field hockey stick hit her in the face and left a hole in her cheek, senior captain Izzy Fratt was brought to the emergency room.
“It was very painful when they put a hole in my cheek,” Fratt said. “I was very sassy to the ambulance drivers because I didn’t want to leave the game.”
The Oct. 5 game at Lafayette was the team’s homecoming game. Contradictory to tradition, the team did not have a home game during homecoming week.
“It was sad that we didn’t have a homecoming game at Gay Field, but we won our away game,” senior captain Anna Krane said.
With a record of 7-2-1, the team has experienced a successful season so far.
“We are all really good friends so we’ve learned to play together really well,” Wack said. “That’s the biggest difference from last year; we play as a team.”
Individual players have also excelled this year, most notably senior captains Krane and Fratt. Krane plans to play field hockey next year at University of Vermont and Fratt plans to play for Cornell.
