Chill’s friendly staff, great yogurt, location add up to success

Their motto is “Just Chill”. It’s written on all the workers’ shirts, the cups, and even the happy customers’ faces. After only opening about a month ago, the new frozen yogurt store Chill is already a huge hit among Claytonians.

Frozen yogurt has been gaining popularity as a healthier alternative to ice cream and other sweet treats. Large frozen yogurt businesses such as the trendy Pinkberry have grown to be massive franchises in the past few years. Chill, located on Wydown Boulevard, has already made its debut in Clayton as both trendy and tasty.

“The vibe of the store itself is ultra modern,” freshman Lindsey Berman said. “And the frozen yogurt is just as good!”

Walking into Chill is like walking into a sleek refrigerator. The walls are painted an icy blue and the floor and ceiling are a cool white that immediately “chill out” the customers. A buffet of self-serve frozen yogurt flavors and toppings line the wall of this modern store.

Chill’s prime location and friendly staff have been drawing a constant crowd of Claytonians since opening day.

“It is a lot less fat than ice cream,” Chill fan and Clayton resident John Olsen said. “But without compromising the taste!”

Olsen is just one of many who love the taste and nutrition of frozen yogurt at Chill.
Not only has Chill offered a place for CHS students to enjoy a yummy treat, but it has also become a fun job opportunity. Chill currently has three CHS students working on its staff.

Sophomore Nicole Indovino is among the Chill staff. Her favorite flavor of frozen yogurt is blood orange, and she loves her job.

“My favorite thing about chill is that there are no preservatives or artificial flavorings in the yogurt,” Indovino said. “It is all natural and healthy.”

She also raved about the location.

“It’s perfect,” Indovino said. “It is very neighborhood based and so easy to get to.”

Every Friday, a horde of hungry Wydowners visit Chill for a cool after-school treat. Eighth grader Danielle Sikora is among the Friday crowd. Sikora said she likes the toppings that Chill has to offer, but that the frozen yogurt itself is not the best.

“It’s a little sour,” Sikora said about the taste of the frozen yogurt. “But the toppings are really unique and the entire vibe of the store is cool.”
Unlike the popular FroYo store that opened in the Loop about three years ago, Chill uses all natural ingredients that include organic low fat or no fat yogurt. This “sour taste” that Sikora speaks of is not a surprise review of Chill’s frozen yogurt; Many people have reported that because Chill uses real yogurt, the taste can come off more bitter and sour than sweet.

Regardless, Chill is filled with happy customers that enjoy the health benefits and taste of this cool treat that is sure to be a summer hit.
