Keeping Sports in the Budget

1.7 million dollars could do a lot. It could buy several houses, purchase many, many, meals, and better someone elses’ life. However, it could also have a negative affect.

Since the Board of Education has issued a 1.7 million dollar budget cut, we know that something big is going to be gone from our school district. One of the things that has been brought into question is the athletic program at the District.

The Board of Education should not cut any sports from CHS.

For some students, sports are their identity at this school. For others, it’s a way to be physically active and have fun at the same time. Plus, with the sports program we have here at CHS, students meet so many new people from all different grade levels.

Participating in a sport gives you something to work toward. It allows you to push yourself to limits you never thought were possible. Athletics teach people how to set goals, and how to work hard to reach them.

Through the sports program at CHS, students are not only taught these important lessons, but gain a lifelong benefit after they leave the high school. Coaches teach students life skills through sports, and help them to become the best athlete, and the best person, they can be.

CHS is widely recognized for the experiences they provide to students. Although we recognize that there are things that must be eliminated – hopefully the sports program won’t be one of them.
